When you’re visiting the heart of North Carolina’s Great Smoky Mountains you’ll want to stay at the Valley River RV Resort. The entire area has a beauty that is awe-inspiring, particularly as summer gives way to autumn and the foliage comes alive with color. What better way to relax and enjoy yourself than by taking in the sights with a glass of wine.

Cherokee

For a wonderful time and some quality wines, consider stopping at the Cherokee Cellars Winery. You can find it in the original Trailways bus station in downtown Murphy. They offer Gold and Silver Medal wines. These wines are made from Georgia and North Carolina vineyards. They choose the best fruit and juice, then make the wine, blend, and bottle it on-site. You can find wines from $12 to $20 a bottle. Whatever your taste, they’re sure to have something for you whether sweet, dry, or something in between.

Valley River

Another option for the discerning palate is the Valley River Vineyards. This winery is operated by Bill and Brenda Reece and offers wines made from Vinifera, French hybrid and native grapes. Here, you’ll find wines from $16 to $18. If wine isn’t your thing, don’t worry, they’ll soon be offering beer as well.

Calaboose

If you travel north instead of south, you’ll find yourself at Calaboose Cellars. They are the smallest free standing, complete winery in America. They offer a variety of sweet and dry wines for under $20. Their Gold Medal winners are the Norton, Chambourcin, Seyval, Catawba, and Revinoor’s Red. For those that prefer hops to grapes, have no fear. They also offer a variety of beers.
