Cherokee County and the Valley River RV Resort

When you’ve located yourself as strategically as Valley River RV Resort has, it is quite delightful to see people’s faces light up as they see the inherent beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains. You’ll find us in Cherokee County, which is in Western North Carolina.

This County is known as the “Gateway to the Smoky Mountains.” This county offers an unlimited source of outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, skiing, and whitewater rafting.

Natural Beauty

The Cherokee County Tusquitee District has two large lakes, the Hiwassee and Appalachia. The former is a 6090 acre like that is 22 miles long. You can find largemouth bass, walleye, bluegill, white bass, and crappie here.

The latter is 1100 acres and only 9.8 miles long. This deep, cool-water lake doesn’t get much fishing because of its isolation, but it has smallmouth bass, spotted bass, largemouth bass, white bass, and redbreast sunfish. There are also a number of rivers for canoeing and waterfalls that are as picturesque as you could possibly want.

Interesting Spots

If you’re not quite into natural beauty, consider visiting some of the things man has put in place. The John C. Campbell Folk School is the place to go to for classes on art, music, dance, cooking, gardening, and more.

Art in Murphy North Carolina, Valley River RV Resort, North Carolina To-do

You could also try out the Cherokee County Historical Museum that shows you some of the rich history of our county. The Murphy Pyramid was erected by Hitchcock Coit in honor of her grandfather. His name, along with that of his wife and niece are etched onto the pyramid.
